I hate to post without pictures but I haven't had a chance to upload yet. :( I'll hopefully update tonight or tomorrow with pictures.
We had a pretty exciting weekend. First of all, we were offered tickets to the Badger hockey game for Friday night. Pre-Isabelle, it was so easy to say, "Yes. Absolutely. We'll take em!" because even before kids, we weren't really the type to have plans every Friday night. Really, what is there to do on a Friday night in WI in the fall/winter? Go to a movie? Sure but I'm too cheap to pay full price for a movie so that was more of a Saturday afternoon thing for us. Go out drinking? Again, that costs money and we're not big drinkers. Plus, by hockey season it's usually a little cold to be out "bar hopping". So we'd always go if offered.
Now, it's not quite so easy. We have to find a babysitter. We were asked a day in advance so I called my mom and she said yes! Then I remembered I had a mom's group meeting for Friday so I called my mom to cancel. I said if they couldn't find anyone else to take the tickets, my mom and dad could take them and go.
The mom's group thingy sort of didn't happen so we had two tickets, no plan, no babysitter. My dad wasn't feeling well so he didn't want to go. So our options were either to go to the game with Isabelle <-- that one got my vote. or the tickets go to waste. Johnas really didn't want to take Isabelle. She doesn't sit still for very long so he figured we'd be chasing her up and down the rows and in the halls.
I won, and we went with Isabelle. I put her in her little Badger cheerleading outfit and we stopped for a nutritious dinner of chicken nuggets and fries courtesy of McDonald's and ate in the car on the way. We got there and Isabelle was in awe! Our tickets were front row so she got to see everything close up. She didn't really understand that they were "skating" on "ice". She said, "Running?" "Shoes?" so I pointed out that they were wearing skates and skating on ice. I don't know if she knew what I was talking about but she had fun watching.
She got up on the big screen a couple of times. Those seats are right by the camera men and they thought she was adorable enough to be up on the screen more than once! The camera was on her all night! After the second period, we stayed to watch the little kids play and started packing up. One of the penalty box officials came over with a puck and handed it to Isabelle. She actually sat pretty still for the 2 periods we were there. She did want to stand for a while and climb on the railing in front of us but she left the people next to us alone. She did turn around and see some guy with nachos and started begging for chips. So, we got her some nachos and she took one lick of the cheese and let out a really big sigh. Apparently the cheese was a little spicy for her. Didn't stop her though. She had a few more licks of cheese and actually ate one chip. Mommy and Daddy finished the rest.
What a great first hockey game for her! An official puck, too spicy nachos, and famous on the big screen.
We also went trick or treating for the first time this weekend. Watch for that in another post. With pictures!
